About 5,700 customers in Manoa, including the University of Hawaii, lost power for about an hour Monday, according to Hawaiian Electric Co. UH-Manoa officials said power went out for both the lower and upper campus about noon. The utility company said all power to Manoa was restored by about 1 p.m.

Island waters claim ninth swimming victim in 2 weeks
A 71-year-old California man has died after he was found floating facedown off of Maluaka Beach in Makena.
He has been identified as Alexander Tsukerman of Berkeley, Calif. His death marks the ninth drowning on Maui in two weeks.
Just after 10:15 a.m. Saturday, fire rescue and lifeguards responded to a call of an unresponsive man identified as Tsukerman floating approximately 100 yards from shore on the north side of Maluaka Beach.
Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto, spokesman of the Maui Fire Department, said Tsukerman went snorkeling alone while his family members and friends were on the beach.
He was wearing a two-piece mask and snorkel when he was found.
Lifeguards brought him to shore where emergency crews administered CPR. He regained a pulse and was transported in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he died Sunday.

Man charged with attempted murder following stabbing
A 39-year-old Hawaiian Ocean View Estates man has been charged after he allegedly stabbed a 31-year-old man multiple times on the Big Island.
Moses A. Libero was charged Sunday with second-degree attempted murder. He remains in custody in lieu of $250,000 bail and made his initial court appearance in District Court on Monday.
At about 11:50 a.m. Friday, patrol officers responded to an assault at the 92-1600 block of Kona Drive in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision. Police said Libero and the victim were in a confrontation when the victim sustained stab wounds to his neck, chest and forearm.
The victim was transported to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition and flown to The Queen’s Medical Center.
