Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 34-year-old man who holed up in a friend’s Waianae apartment for several hours Sunday while Specialized Services Division officers surrounded the building.
Frank Hampp was charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
His bail was set at $1 million.
Hampp surrendered and police arrested him at 3:55 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of three counts of first-degree attempted murder, resisting arrest, firearm and ammunition offenses, and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
Police came in contact with the man during a traffic stop at 10:35 p.m. Saturday on the H-1 freeway between Ewa and Makakilo.
He fled and was spotted again on Farrington Highway several minutes later in a stolen car.
Police pursued Hampp, who fired several shots at multiple police vehicles on Farrington Highway in Waianae, police said.
The man crashed into a fence and fire hydrant on Waianae Valley Road and fled into a friend’s apartment.
Woman found dead in Waikiki park
Police say they are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found Tuesday morning in the area of Princess Kaiulani Triangle Park in Waikiki.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office did not release any information concerning the body, except that it is awaiting notification of next of kin before making identification.
Police said the woman may have had a medical condition.
Coast Guard medevacs woman from cruise ship
The U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 71-year-old woman from the Grand Princess, a cruise ship owned by Princess Cruises, about 14 miles south of Oahu early Tuesday morning.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point hoisted the woman, who was reported to be experiencing strokelike symptoms, from the ship at 1:35 a.m. and delivered her in stable condition to awaiting emergency medical personnel at The Queen’s Medical Center.
“It’s always a race against the clock trying to get passengers to a higher level of medical care,” said Ensign Celesta Brosowsky, a watch-stander at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center, in a press release. “We’re grateful the cruise ship crew took quick action, recognizing that she needed to be medically evacuated.”
Man injured in McCully pedestrian accident
A 38-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning at the intersection of McCully Street and Kapiolani Boulevard.
The accident occurred at about 4:20 a.m. Emergency Medical Services transported the man in serious condition to a trauma center.
Earlier this month a pedestrian in her 70s or 80s was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle near North School and Houghtailing streets in Kalihi.
