A UFC featherweight title fight between champion Max Holloway and challenger Frankie Edgar has been postponed once again.
A leg injury suffered in training has forced Holloway to pull out of the bout that was set to headline UFC 222 on March 3 in Las Vegas.
The two fighters were originally supposed to fight at UFC 218 in December, but Edgar pulled out of the fight with an injury. Holloway went on to beat Jose Aldo for a second time by TKO.
“I asked the docs if we could cut off my leg then ask the commission if I could fight handicapped,” Holloway wrote on his Twitter page. “They told me at the end of the day it is what it is. Had dozens of family from Hawaii coming up for this one. I know it sucks but hang in there. We’re going to reschedule asap.”
Holloway won the interim 145-pound title against Anthony Pettis in December 2016 and unified the title with a third-round TKO of Aldo last June.
Holloway (19-3, 15-3 UFC) hasn’t lost a fight in four years and is No. 5 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings.
Edgar, a former UFC lightweight champion who owns three victories over Hilo’s B.J. Penn, is 16-5-1 in the UFC. He has fought only once since November 2016.
