Three wins, each in three sets, kept Hawaii at No. 3 in Monday’s AVCA Division I-II Men’s Volleyball Top 15.
The Rainbow Warriors (8-1) remained behind No. 1 Long Beach State (10-0) and UCLA (10-1). The 49ers, the only undefeated team left in the country, received 23 first-place votes, while the Bruins (10-1) had the other two.
Also staying put were UC Irvine (11-2) at No. 4 and Ohio State (7-2) at No. 5.
Hawaii next hosts its alumni match on Feb. 18 at the Stan Sheriff Center at 5 p.m. The Warriors continue their 12-match homestand when they host UC Irvine in their inaugural Big West matches Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.
Federico named player of the week
Hawaii Pacific senior forward Niksha Federico was named the PacWest Conference men’s basketball player of the week on Monday afternoon.
Federico, a transfer from San Diego State, averaged 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in a win over Biola and a loss to Dixie State. He leads the PacWest in scoring and rebounding at 21.9 points and 10.4 boards per game.
>> Hawaii Hilo guard Will Burghardt was named the PacWest freshman of the week for his 23-point performance in a 98-85 win over Fresno Pacific on Saturday. The Longview, Wash., native was also 7-for-10 on 3-point attempts.
>> On the women’s side, Chaminade guard Destiny Castro was named the PacWest defender of the week. The sophomore guard from Talofofo, Guam, totaled 26 rebounds and seven steals in a 66-52 win against Dixie State and 65-49 loss to Fresno Pacific over the weekend.
