The University of Hawaii women’s swimming and diving team set records in four events Saturday at East Los Angeles Community College en route to capturing the program’s second straight Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship and third in the past four years.
The Rainbow Wahine finished with 848 points to pull away from UC Santa Barbara, which had 643. The UH men’s team finished second in the team standings with 670.5 points, trailing UCSB’s 717.
UH swept the platform diving competition, with Madison Sthamann winning the women’s title with a record score of 318.20, followed by Ivy Houser and Mariah Renteria. UH’s Johan Sandell and Lucas Cooperman went 1-2 in the men’s platform.
UH sophomore Phoebe Hines shattered the meet record in the women’s 1,650 free with a time of 15:54.31. The previous record was 16:10.41. Franziska Weidner broke the 100 freestyle record in the preliminaries, then lowered the mark again in the final with a winning time of 48.05 seconds. The Wahine won the 400 freestyle relay in a meet-record 3:18.33.
Metin Aydin won the men’s 200 backstroke in 1:41.52. Olli Kokko claimed the 200 breaststroke in 1:57.38.
Chaminade men knock off Biola
Erik Scheive and Austin Pope both scored 15 points as the Chaminade men’s basketball team beat Biola 71-59 on Saturday in La Mirada, Calif.
Brett Reed had 12 rebounds for the Silverswords (15-10, 10-8 PacWest). The Eagles dropped to 11-16, 5-14.

The Sharks fell to 14-12, 9-9 PacWest. The Trailblazers improved to 18-6, 15-2.

No. 23 HPU women beat Dixie State
Samantha Lambrigtsen scored 20 points and Jessi Reeves added 16 points and 12 rebounds as the No. 23 Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team beat Dixie State 83-72 on Saturday in St. George, Utah.
The Sharks improved to 23-2, 17-1 PacWest. The Trailblazers dropped to 11-13, 7-10.

The Vulcans fell to 6-15, 4-14 PacWest. The Sea Lions went to 16-10, 11-8.

UH sweeps softball doubleheader
Hawaii freshman Britnee Rossi’s two-run double in the top of the seventh inning powered the Rainbow Wahine softball team to a 3-1 win over Utah State in the first game of a doubleheader in the Marucci Desert Classic on Saturday in Henderson, Nev.
UH’s Dana Thomsen gave up eight hits.
In the second game, Nicole Lopez went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs, Rossi hit her first UH home run and Laura Jaquez added a grand slam in an 18-0 rout of Idaho State in five innings. Brittany Hitchcock allowed one hit and struck out three in four innings.
UH men wrap up Burns Intercollegiate
The University of Hawaii men’s golf team shot a final-round 301 to finish 20th and last at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Wailua Golf Course.
The Rainbow Warriors had a three-round total of 53-over-par 917. Texas A&M won at 835.
Hawaii’s top golfer was non-scoring individual Trevor Hirata, who finished tied for 59th at 5-over 221. Texas A&M’s Chandler Phillips won medalist honors at 203.
