Honolulu police arrested a 23-year-old woman early Monday morning in the Red Hill area after she allegedly stabbed a 24-year-old man who was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. A U.S. Marine Corps public affairs officer confirmed that the victim, Juan Iturbide, was a Marine stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe. The officer said more information would be released today.

A Honolulu Police Department official said the incident was reported by a detective as occurring at a home at 11:17 p.m. Sunday. The suspect was arrested at the scene at 12:15 a.m.

Kamehameha staffer released on $450K bail

A Kamehameha Schools faculty member charged with sexual assault has been released on bail.

James Maeda, 23, was charged Sunday with nine counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree sexual assault. He was released that day after posting $450,000 bail. Police said a girl reported that Maeda had sexually assaulted her.

Kamehameha Schools said a faculty member was placed on indefinite administrative leave. Maeda is a faculty member in the high school’s performing arts department, according to the school’s website.

1 dead, 1 critical after Makaha hit-and-run

One man died and another was critically injured Monday evening in an apparent hit-and-run incident in Makaha.

According to an Emergency Medical Services report, the victims were repairing a truck on the side of Farrington Highway near Makua Cave when they were struck by a vehicle.

A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old man was transported in critical condition to an area hospital by paramedics. Another man, believed to be in his 20s, was examined for minor injuries and refused further treatment. The incident occurred at about 7:40 p.m.
