Prosecutors charged a 23-year-old Moanalua woman Tuesday for allegedly fatally stabbing her husband, a Marine sergeant, late Sunday night.
Evelin Iturbide was charged with second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Sgt. Juan Iturbide. Her bail was set at $750,000.
Police said the incident occurred at 11:17 p.m. Sunday. The woman was arrested at 12:15 a.m. Monday on Ala Kapuna Street on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Iturbide died at Kaiser Medical Center of a stab wound, the Marine Corps said in a press release. He was stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Iturbide, a native of Orange, Calif., served as a food service specialist, Service Company, Headquarters Battalion. He was awarded the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and three Sea Service Deployment ribbons.
“We mourn the loss of Sgt. Iturbide,” said Col. Raul Lianez, MCBH commanding officer. “The sympathy and respect offered by the local community is appreciated by the Marines and families of MCBH.”
Victim attacked, robbed by group of males
A 48-year-old man was transported to a hospital after a group of 10 males assaulted and robbed him in Waipahu, authorities said.
Police said the victim was attacked and robbed by the unknown perpetrators at about 9:45 p.m. Monday.
Emergency Medical Services said the victim sustained multiple injuries to his face, arms and upper body. Paramedics transported him to a hospital in serious condition.
Police believe the same group of suspects attacked another person in a separate assault case in Waipahu.
Police investigating Waialae 7-Eleven robbery
Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at a convenience store in the Waialae area.
At about 12:25 a.m. Monday, police said a male suspect entered 7-Eleven and wielded a firearm. He demanded money and cigarettes from two employees before he fled on foot.
No injuries were reported.
Man injured after falling into wastewater pit
Firefighters assisted a 39-year-old man who fell into a pit at the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant on Tuesday morning.
The Honolulu Fire Department responded at 10:51 a.m. with four units, with the first unit arriving at 10:59 a.m.
The man had fallen about 12 to 15 feet from a ladder into a pit, which contained a small amount of sewage. Fire personnel removed the man at 11:25 a.m.
The man received injuries to his lower back.
He was stabilized and extricated from the pit before being transferred to Emergency Medical Services personnel.
