Loyola Marymount pitching stifled the Hawaii offense and the host Lions swept the Rainbow Wahine softball team in a doubleheader on Thursday in Los Angeles.
LMU junior Hanna Bandimere allowed six hits and held off a late rally in a 2-1 win in the first game at Smith Field, ending UH’s five-game winning streak. Linnay Wilson limited UH to three hits and struck out 10 in the Lions’ 3-0 victory in the second game. UH stranded eight runners in the first game and five in the second.
Mid-Pacific graduate Lindsey Matoi went 2-for-3 for LMU (6-5-1) in the first game and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second.
UH (5-4) continues its 12-game road trip with a doubleheader against Weber State today at Smith Field.
HPU women have 19-game run snapped
The No. 21 Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team had its 19-game winning streak snapped after an 81-63 loss to No. 19 Azusa Pacific on Thursday at Moanalua High School.
Samantha Lambrigtsen scored 13 points, Jessi Reeves added 12 and Spencer Gray had 11 for the Sharks.
Azusa Pacific (26-3 overall) and HPU (23-3) are now tied atop the PacWest at 17-2.
Abbigail Goodsell scored 30 points for the Cougars.

Hawaii Hilo men down Chaminade
Randan Berinobis finished with 25 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Ryley Callaghan added 21 points and eight assists as the host Hawaii Hilo men’s basketball team beat Chaminade 94-86 on Thursday.
Will Burghardt scored 15 points and Devin Johnson had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Vulcans (7-19, 6-13 PacWest).
Austin Pope scored 23 points and Grant Dressler added 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Silverswords (15-11, 10-9).

Darnell Bettis and Lorenz Gordon-Haynes each added 10 points for the Sharks (14-13, 9-10 PacWest).
Mandrell Worthy finished with 19 points for the Cougars (19-8, 15-4), who scored the final four points of the game.
UH swimmers Weidner, Aydin honored
The University of Hawaii’s Franziska Weidner was named mid-major women’s swimmer of the week and Metin Aydin claimed the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s swimmer of the week award.
Weidner, a junior, won all seven events she entered and set six conference records at the MPSF championships in Los Angeles as the Rainbow Wahine won their second consecutive team title.
Aydin, a junior, won three events at the MPSF championships as the Hawaii men finished runner-up.
