Hawaii senior Claire Nixon scored three goals and assisted on four more for the fifth-ranked Rainbow Wahine in a 10-8 win over No. 6 Arizona State on Sunday to close the Barbara Kalbus Invitational in Irvine, Calif.
UH sophomore Maartje Keuning and freshman Carmen Baringo each contributed two goals, Ymane Hage made eight saves and UH (11-2) defeated the Sun Devils (11-4) for the second time this season to finish fifth in the 16-team tournament.
The Wahine went 3-1 over the weekend and open Big West play against No. 7 UC Irvine on Saturday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Rolovich to speak at Quarterback Club
University of Hawaii football coach Nick Rolovich will be the featured speaker at today’s meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club at the Maple Garden Restaurant.
Rolovich will discuss the Rainbow Warriors’ recruiting class during the meeting. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. with the program to begin at noon. The cost is $16 for members and guests. The general public is invited.
UH swimmers set school records
Hawaii sophomore Olli Kokko broke the school record in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke for the second straight day at the Bulldog Last Chance meet in Athens, Ga.
Kokko set the UH mark on Saturday at 52.85 seconds then lowered it to 52.61 in a time trial on Sunday. Kokko now ranks 20th in the country in the event.
Kokko, Metin Aydin, Mateusz Chaba and Reed Wynn broke the school record in the 400 medley relay at 3:07.51, good for 18th in the nation. Jonas Gutzat
Freshman Lucia Lassman set the UH record in the women’s 100 butterfly at 52.53 seconds.
UH’s Lowe wins high jump title
Hawaii sophomore Lily Lowe cleared 5 feet, 10.5 inches to capture the high jump title at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships on Saturday in Seattle, Wash.
The victory was Lowe’s fifth straight in the event and she closed the indoor season ranked 24th nationally.
UH placed 13th in the team standings with 10 points.
HPU softball sweeps British Columbia
The Hawaii Pacific softball team swept a doubleheader from British Columbia on Sunday at Sand Island Softball Park.
In the first game, Mary Dungey drove in two runs and Cieana Curran and Sierra Dias both scored twice in the Sharks’ 7-4 victory. HPU’s Jordan Curry allowed three runs — one earned — over 61⁄3 innings.
In the second game, the Sharks’ Alexis Morales pitched a four-hitter in a six-inning 9-1 win. Curry hit a three-run homer and Curran belted a solo shot for HPU.
The Sharks improved to 3-1, while the Thunderbirds went to 1-5.
UH sailors finish fourth at McIntyre
The University of Hawaii sailing team finished fourth at the McIntyre Team Race, which concluded Sunday in Stanford, Calif.
The Rainbows finished 7-10 overall in head-to-head action at the 10-team regatta. Hawaii finished behind UC Santa Barbara (15-2), Stanford (14-3) and Eckerd (12-5).
