Emergency Medical Services transported a 57-year-old woman to a hospital after she was struck by a vehicle in Kalihi early Monday.
At about 5:20 a.m. near Kalihi Kai Elementary School, Lt. Ben Moszkowicz, acting captain of the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, said, a white 1998 Mitsubishi Montero operated by a 58-year-old man was traveling mauka on Kalihi Street and made a left turn onto Dillingham Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian.
The woman, of Kalihi, was walking in a marked crosswalk when the vehicle struck her. EMS treated and transported her in critical condition to a hospital.
Police temporarily shut down a section of the westbound lanes of Dillingham Boulevard to investigate.
Man dies after getting swept into ocean
A 64-year-old man has died after he was swept into the ocean at Hanauma Bay.
Positive identification is pending.
Shortly before 4:10 p.m. Sunday, the man was with a group of people at the Rock Bridge area when he was struck by a wave and fell into the ocean. Lifeguards found him unresponsive and brought him to shore.
Police said lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until Emergency Medical Services arrived. Paramedics treated and transported him in critical condition to a hospital where he died.
Aiea building fire caused by electrical outlet
Honolulu fire investigators determined that an Aiea building fire Thursday was caused by a malfunctioning electrical outlet.
The Fire Department responded with nine units at 1:37 p.m. Thursday to 98-205 Aiea Kai Place.
The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the structure and $20,000 to its contents.
No one was injured in the fire.
The Fire Department reminds homeowners to call a qualified electrician if problems persist with blowing fuses or tripping circuit breakers, or when one experiences a tingling feeling after touching an electrical appliance, or if wall outlets spark or are discolored or warm.
