Three adults were injured in a two-car crash that occurred about 9:30 p.m. Friday on Kamehameha Highway, just past the Whitmore Avenue intersection in Wahiawa.
Police said a 20-year-old Haleiwa man was driving south on the highway when he lost control of his vehicle and veered into the northbound lane, hitting a car driven by a 27-year-old Wahiawa woman who was accompanied by a 25-year-old Wahiawa woman.
The man was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, while both women were reported in serious condition.
Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor. The incident occurred in inclement whether, but it’s unknown if speed contributed to the crash.
Police identify pedestrian hit by truck
The Hawaii Police Department opened a negligent homicide case following the death of a Kailua-Kona pedestrian. Thursday. Police said 50-year-old Peter Sigrah was walking in the southbound lane of Queen Kaahumanu Highway at the intersection with Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park at about 5:50 a.m when he was struck by a 2006 Ford F-450 operated by a 64-year-old Kamuela man.
Sigrah was pronounced dead later that morning at Kona Community Hospital.
Police do not believe speed and alcohol were factors. Witnesses are asked to call Traffic Enforcement Unit officer Kimo Keliipaakaua at 326-4646, ext. 229.
There have been five traffic fatalities on the Big Island this year, compared with four at this time last year.
