Hawaii senior Dana Thomsen held Arkansas Pine Bluff to one hit and the Rainbow Wahine softball team closed the Outrigger Resorts Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament with a 5-0 win on Sunday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Thomsen (7-7) struck out four and walked one in her second shutout of the season.
Freshman Britnee Rossi broke up a scoreless duel with an RBI single in the fourth inning, and sophomores Callee Heen and Cheeks Ramos homered in the sixth for the Wahine (12-11).
UH concludes the nonconference schedule with the five-day Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic starting Wednesday. UH will face North Dakota, Cleveland State, No. 4 Tennessee and Maryland to close its homestand.
UH water polo sweeps Aztec Invitational
Chloe Barr recorded two hat tricks and the fifth-ranked University of Hawaii water polo team completed a perfect run at the Aztec Invitational with wins over No. 11 UC San Diego and No. 21 San Diego State on Sunday in San Diego.
Irene Gonzalez and Maartje Keuning complemented Barr with two goals each in UH’s 11-6 win over UC San Diego. Gonzalez scored three more in another 11-6 win over San Diego State.
The Rainbow Wahine (16-3) went 4-0 in the tournament and return to the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex to face No. 3 USC at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Rainbow sailors place ninth
The University of Hawaii sailing team finished ninth at the Port of Los Angeles Harbor Cup, held over the weekend off the shores of Southern California.
The three-day regatta comprised of 10 total races, and UH took second place in races 7 and 10. The Rainbow Sailors finished with 69 points. Navy won the regatta with 33 points.
Next up for the Rainbows is the St. Francis Invitational, April 7-8 in San Francisco.
