Chef William Bruhl has created a mile-high pie with a sweet cream base, Do-si-do cookie chunks, cocoa powder, brown sugar and coffee.
It’s only available for a short time, so act fast. Duke’s will donate $2 per slice sold to the Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i.
ENJOY YOUR PEANUTS, SHELLS AND ALL
The lastest snack-food sensation is a Southern-style fried peanut so crisp that you can can pop the shell and all into your mouth.
The Hawaiian Fried Peanuts are actually produced by Big Jim’s Peanuts in California, available only at Fisher Hawaii.
Store buyer Ric Gonzalez said a sales representative first tasted the deep-fried peanuts on a trip to Arizona and thought, “Wow! This is good stuff,” and figured the peanuts would be good sellers in Hawaii, where they hadn’t been seen before.
Fisher asked Big Jim’s Peanuts, owned by an Alabama native, to package them under a Hawaii-specific label exclusively for the office-supply chain.
The peanuts are available in simply salted, garlic and spicy flavors. They sell for $3.29 for a 7-ounce bag, and over the last few months have been been scooped up by customers eager to try something new at Fisher’s Kakaako, Mapunapuna and Fort Street Mall branches, Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez admitted he used to eat whole roasted peanuts, shells and all, even before he discovered this crispy, crunchy version, “but these have more flavor.”
