The Hawaii Pacific women’s tennis team rose to No. 1 in the country in the Oracle/ITA Division II Women’s Tennis Rankings, released on Wednesday.
The Sharks are 11-1 this season and earned a rating of 74.44, ahead of No. 2 West Florida (72.55) and No. 3 Barry (Fla.) (66.13). This is the first time in program history that HPU has reached the top of the national rankings.
Individually, senior Lena Lutzeier is ranked No. 2 in singles, while fellow senior senior Lara Meccico is ranked 15th.
UH Hilo men ranked fifth
The University of Hawaii Hilo men’s tennis team earned the No. 5 ranking in the latest ITA/Oracle Division II Collegiate Tennis Rankings, announced on Wednesday.
The Vulcans, 9-1 this season, are undefeated against Division II competition, with their lone loss coming against Division I opponent Southern Utah.
Silverswords split in softball
The Chaminade softball team bounced back from a tough loss to earn a split at Notre Dame de Namur in Atherton, Calif.
The Silverswords (8-17, 5-13 PacWest) were held to just three hits in a 6-0 loss in the opener, but rallied for a 9-1 victory in the second game.
