A man, woman and boy Thursday morning escaped a two-alarm house fire in Aiea that was caused by a malfunctioning laptop computer and its power cord, Honolulu Fire Capt. Scot Seguirant said.
Damage was estimated at $120,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents.
The first of 34 firefighters responded to 99-402 Pilikoa St. at 6:20 a.m. and saw smoke and flames coming out of a right rear window of the one-story home, Seguirant said. The three occupants quickly escaped.
The fire was brought under control at 6:43 a.m. and extinguished at 7:05 a.m.
Kaneohe motorcycle crash victim is ID’d as Marine
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified Wednesday the 21-year-old Kaneohe man who died after crashing his motorcycle on the H-3 freeway over the weekend as Austin Cahill.
A Marine spokesman said Cahill was a lance corporal and machine gunner in Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.
Police said speed was a contributing factor in the crash March 16 in Kaneohe.
Cahill was heading toward Kaneohe when he lost control near the Likelike offramp, drifted onto the shoulder area and hit a guardrail, police said. He was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene.
He was wearing a helmet.
