Restaurant Week at the International Market Place runs Monday through April 16, with special fixed-price menus offered at the restaurants on the Grand Lanai.

Go to shopinternationalmarketplace.com (click on “events”) to preview dinner menus for Herringbone Waikiki, Yauatcha, Baku Waikiki, Flour & Barley Brick Oven Pizza, Goma Tei Ramen, The Street Food Hall, StripSteak Waikiki and Eating House 1849.

Deals run from $12.60 for a meal at Goma Tei to $65 for three courses at StripSteak. The Party Pass at The Street, which provides a choice of seven items from the food stands, is discounted $10, to $26.99.

Special events during the week:

>> Poke Bowl II: Chefs Randy Bangloy of Eating House and Jamie Zager of StripSteak will compete in a poke cookoff, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 13 in the Queen’s Court. Samples of their traditional and specialty poke dishes will be served. The event is free.

>> An Evening with Michael Mina: The chef will host a reception and four-course dinner, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 16 at StripSteak featuring dishes from his three Hawaii operations, StripSteak, The Street and Mina’s Fish House. Cost is $175; book through eventbrite.com.

LAST CALL FOR YOUNG CHEF

Hawaii’s run on the “MasterChef Junior” national TV competition has come to an end.

Twelve-year-old Sophia Stark of Honolulu was done in by Friday’s challenge to produce a meal reflecting her home and heritage, and was eliminated by judges Gordon Ramsay, Christina Tosi and Joe Bastianich.

Sophia and Noelani Gray of Maui, 8, were among 40 cooks between ages 8 and 13 who secured spots in Season 6 of the Fox series.

Noelani was eliminated in the first week, but Sophia soldiered on for six episodes. Her dish of a jerk chicken quesadilla with cold mango soup, however, did not pass muster after her homemade tortillas turned out burnt.

Sophia exited with head held high, her arm around the shoulders of 9-year-old Mackenzie Patten, who was eliminated with her.

The competition continues at 7 p.m. Fridays on KHON-TV, with 16 contestants remaining.

TRAVEL THE WORLD AT DINING EVENT

A competition of another kind takes place at 5:30 p.m. April 12 on the University of Hawaii’s Manoa campus when chefs from six Sodexo facilities go head-to-head showcasing cuisines of Greece, India, Italy, Spain, France and Thailand.

Sodexo, an international food-service company, handles the UH campus restaurants, as well as other healthcare and corporate dining facilities on Oahu.

The Around the World with Sodexo competition is open to the public, with a $20 passport buying a taste from all six competitors’ food stations. A $29 passport includes a flight of beer or wine. Proceeds benefit the Hawaii Foodbank and the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation.
