Lincoln Memorial freshman Tyra Sanchez ended her month of March helping the Lady Railsplitters win their first East Coast Conference title ever.
The 2017 Moanalua alumna made the all-tournament team after helping the Lady Railsplitters finish 9-1 in the tournament.
Sanchez averaged 19.59 points per frame.
She started the month rolling the first 300 game in school history at the Big Red Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
Sanchez helped the Lady Railsplitters beat No. 2 McKendree by one pin by shooting a perfect score in the anchor position. Her 12th and final strike not only clinched the perfect game, but gave her team the win by a single pin.
“What an amazing performance for a freshman to step up and not only throw our first-ever perfect game but to also strike out in the 10th against the defending NCAA national champions to win the match by one pin,” LMU director of bowling and women’s coach Joseph Slowinski said in a press release. “Tyra can flat-out strike when she gets it going, and today may be the start of her big breakout as a player. Tyra has worked so hard to improve and be an important contributor to our success as a team.”
LMS will host Texas Southern in the opening round of the 2018 National Collegiate Women’s Bowling Championship on Friday. The winner will advance to St. Louis to compete in the double-elimination NCAA tournament April 12-14.
