Hawaii has a new interisland airline, but it only flies between two islands on demand.
The ultraluxury resort on Lanai announced Tuesday that it has started its own charter flight service for guests traveling between Honolulu and the Four Seasons Resort Lanai.
The service, dubbed Lanai Air, is operated by Mokulele Airlines using two single-engine turboprop planes popular in the corporate travel market and other industries.
Service on the Pilatus PC-12 planes, which seat up to eight passengers, starts at $500 one way per couple and requires parties of at least two passengers, the Four Seasons said.
Billionaire Larry Ellison owns nearly all of Lanai and spent eight months and $75 million remodeling the oceanfront Four Seasons, which reopened in 2016 with nightly rates ranging from
$1,075 to $21,000.
Ellison also had once owned interisland airline Island Air. He later sold most of his share in that airline to other investors who attempted to improve and expand the money-losing business, but Island Air folded last year after filing bankruptcy.
