The No. 3 Hawaii beach volleyball team extended its school-record winning streak to 25 straight with two 5-0 victories on Saturday at the Ching Complex courts.

The Rainbow Wahine (30-3) swept both Boise State and Arizona State on the first day of the senior celebration weekend. The SandBows conclude the regular season today against the Sun Devils (10-15) at 2 p.m. and the Broncos (2-8) at 4 p.m.

Also Saturday, Emily Maglio and Ka‘iwi Schucht ran their program-record win streak to 21 with two victories at Flight 1. At Flight 4, Ari Homayun and Amy Ozee won both for their 18th and 19th in a row.

With its 30th victory, Hawaii broke its single-season win mark of 29 set last season.

UH water polo clinches top seed

Hawaii senior Chloe Barr scored five goals and assisted on three more and the fifth-ranked Rainbow Wahine water polo team clinched the top seed in the Big West tournament with an 11-4 win over No. 17 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday in Santa Barbara, Calif.

With the win, the Wahine (19-4, 4-0) also secured at least a tie for the Big West regular-season title. They close the regular season today at Cal State Northridge and a win over the Matadors would give UH its first outright regular-season championship since joining the conference in 2013. Carmen Baringo added two goals for UH and Molly DiLalla made eight saves.

Wahine swept in softball doubleheader

The Hawaii softball team dropped the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader with UC Santa Barbara in an early finish, then went to extra innings before falling to the Gauchos again to close the Big West series in Santa Barbara, Calif.

UCSB’s Felisha Noriega held the Rainbow Wahine to two hits and struck out nine and the Gauchos broke away late in an 8-0 six-inning win.

UCSB took a 5-2 lead into the sixth inning of the finale, but UH freshman Britnee Rossi tied the game with a bases-loaded triple and the game went into extra innings. UCSB’s Rayna Cohen reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the eighth, advanced on a groundout and scored on Maci Fines’ single to center to give the Gauchos a 6-5 victory and the series win.

UH (20-18, 4-5 BWC) returns to Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium to play host to Cal State Fullerton in a three-game series starting Friday.
