Leilehua rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie it and Christian Ontai scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to keep the host Mules alive for a state tournament berth with a 6-5 win over Castle on Wednesday in the first round of the OIA playoffs.
The Mules (8-5) were down 5-2 in the seventh inning when Ontai doubled to lead off and scored on an error. A groundout allowed the second Leilehua runner to score and Jaxon Hotta singled home the tying run with two outs to tie the game and force extra innings.
Ontai finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored and Zane Staszkow added two hits, a walk and an RBI for Leilehua, which advanced to play East No. 1 seed Kailua today.
Hunter Paredes went 3-for-4 with a run scored and Jabe Kahawaii singled twice and drove in a run for the Knights (5-8), who scored two runs in the top of the seventh but saw their season end.
Kaiser 8, Aiea 3
Brock Perreira went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three different Cougars had two hits as Kaiser (8-5) advanced to play West No. 1 seed Campbell in today’s quarterfinals.
Jace Okamoto and Kennedy Chun scored twice and Tyler Dyball and Landon Shigeta each had two hits. All 10 Kaiser hits were singles.
Pono Lyman earned the win and was taken out after 55 pitches, allowing just one earned run and three hits in 41⁄3 innings with three strikeouts.
Logan Ho doubled, tripled, scored once and a drove in a run for Na Alii (5-8).
Moanalua 7, Kapolei 2
Mathis Yamamoto singled home two runs in a four-run fourth inning and Na Menehune (8-4) won their third straight game to advance to today’s quarterfinals against West No. 2 seed Pearl City.
Andrew Oasay hit three doubles, scored twice and drove in a run and Bryson Sato doubled home a run during a three-run third inning for Moanalua.
Jeremiah Lono, Landon Kuroda and Drayden Kawewehi all hit doubles for the Hurricanes (2-11).
Mililani 4, Roosevelt 0
Trojans junior Cole Mayeshiro tossed a four-hit shutout and Bryce Yonemori went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Trojans (9-4) into today’s quarterfinals against East No. 2 seed Kalani.
Catcher Korrey Siracusa added two hits and drew a walk for Mililani.
