Happy 420! For the uninitiated: 4/20 (April 20) is a holiday for marijuana users. The name supposedly originated from Marin County, where some folks found 4:20 was the ideal time for consuming cannabis. In addition, the story goes, the observance spread through fans of the Grateful Dead, who marked the occasion at concerts.
In any case, it’s now like Christmas shopping season for the cannabis dispensaries in Hawaii, which have been texting about holiday discounts. And in case you wondered: Yes, there are 420 greeting cards, too.
Sales and cards. Must be a real holiday, then.
Netflix seeks Oscar gold with movie theaters
It’s all about making our entertainment mobile … until it isn’t. Netflix, the digital on-demand delivery system for movies and other shows, has touted ease of access — on a smart phone, smart TV or whatever smart device you have.
But because its programs don’t show in theaters, the company has been ineligible to enter its own material for Oscars. That’s why, according to multiple reports, Netflix is seeking to buy movie palaces where they could be shown.
Besides, cinemas, with their newly comfy recliners, attract a healthy base of customers. Being immobile still has its charm.
