University of Hawaii baseball coach Mike Trapasso has reached an agreement on a multi-year contract extension.
Trapasso and athletic director David Matlin told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that a new deal is in place. Details will be discussed and finalized after the conclusion of the Rainbow Warriors’ 2018 season.
Trapasso’s contract was set to expire in August. This is his 17th season as UH head coach.
“I’m grateful to Dave Matlin and excited to go to work on the stretch run of this season,” Trapasso said.
Trapasso was in the final year of a contract when he received a one-year extension last year. With the ’Bows’ success on the field (49-38 the past two seasons) and in the classroom (100 percent graduation rate the past few years), it was decided a contract extension was warranted. The multi-year deal provides assurances as the ’Bows continue to add to their 2019 recruiting class.
Trapasso and Les Murakami are the only head coaches in the program’s NCAA Division I history.
Trapasso is third in seniority among the UH’s head coaches. Sailing coach Andy Johnson is in his 28th year at UH. Bob Coolen is in his 27th season as head coach in softball.
