Moms are as different as can be, so it’s not easy to single out a gift item guaranteed to please all.
But every mom works hard to keep the family unit running and doesn’t hear the words “thank you” nearly enough.
Along with giving mom a break by taking her out to brunch or dinner, a little pampering and acknowledgment is always appreciated.
Here are a few ideas to start:
1. Serial entrepreneur Holly Harding, co-creator of Bubble Shack (since sold) and The H Lyfe Method wellness program, is back, this time with a natural skin care brand, O’o Beauty, made with organically grown, non-GMO Hawaii superfood-level ingredients.
Help mom stay forever young with such products as Golden Nectar brightening, firming ferulic serum ($130) or the beautifully packaged Birds + Roses Rose Quartz Hydrating + Firming Mask ($130).

2. I’m not a mom, but whenever I meet one, I find that no matter what her personal and career lives are like, being a mom is central to her identity. She can tell the world with Tiffany Charms “Mom” heart tag in 18k gold with a diamond to catch the eye and spark a conversation … about her kids, of course!
It’s $500 at Tiffany & Co.
3. For the stylish mom, don’t settle for average eyewear. Vitra Eyewear recently opened at the Royal Hawaiian Center, offering such rare, independent, ultraluxury brands as Linda Farrow, Sospiri and Luxuriator by Franco, in defiance of such license monopolies as Luxottica and Safilo.
Italian maker Sospiri pays tribute to Venetian masters through handcrafted frames set with Swarovski crystals. The Virginia style is $1,198.
Luxuriator by Franco creates jewelry for the face, with frame details of diamonds set in 18K white, yellow, rose or gun-metal gold. One 3-carat diamond pair of Luxuriator shades is $16,000.
4. For a day of pampering and bliss, there’s nothing better than hitting the spas. Start the day at Laka Skin Care & Spa, where a Mother’s Day special of a Sculpt High Frequency facial is in effect through May 31. Using a machine straight from South Korea, arguably the beauty capital of the world, this facial uses heat from radio waves to stimulate collagen production to help firm skin and give it a glow. The hourlong treatment is $140, discounted from $160.
Laka Spa is at 320 Ward Ave., Suite 200. Call 397-5252.
Then have Mom head to the Halekulani hotel for a whole-body Five Element Aromatherapy Massage using customized essential oil infusions with warm herbal compresses, and heated stones if desired.
Treatments are $195 for an hour, or $255 for 90 minutes. Call 931-5322.
5. A gift of flowers lasts for a few days; a gift of fragrance lasts much longer. L.A.-based celebrity floral designer, known as “The King of Roses,” joined cosmetic industry veteran Fabrice Croise to create EB Florals, a line of fragrances focused on fresh floral notes.
Scents range from those popular locally, such as Regal Tuberose and Jasmine, to the more exotic Dahlia and, of course, the ever-popular Sultry Rose. The pastel color of the fragrances is derived from the flowers used to make them. Starts at $75 for 10 milliliters at Saks Fifth Avenue.
The fragrances are available as candles as well, starting at $70.
