A woman died Saturday after being struck by falling rocks while hiking along the Makaua Hidden Valley Trail in Kaaawa.
The Honolulu Fire Department responded to a 12:35 p.m. emergency call and dispatched five units, including HFD’s rescue helicopter, and 16 personnel who first arrived on the scene by 1:04 p.m.
The woman, a visitor believed to be in her 30s, was found unconscious with no pulse and not breathing at 1:31 p.m., according to an HFD report. She was airlifted to a landing zone established at Swanzy Beach Park, transferred to the care of Emergency Medical Services and later pronounced dead.
No other details were immediately available.
Bank offers help to volcano victims
Bank of Hawaii has initiated several financial assistance programs to help those affected by the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions on the Big Island.
The programs provide access to cash via special loan programs and relief on existing Bank of Hawaii loans. The assistance includes low interest rates, deferred loan payments, expedited approval and funding, reduced payments with terms up to 60 months and loan amounts up to $25,000.
Depending on the program, funds may be used for emergency supplies and living essentials, repairs to homes and vehicles, replacement of living essentials and to bridge working capital needs.
