Sunday is Mother’s Day. If this is news to you, better start thinking.
Sure, you can go to the supermarket and pick up a bouquet of flowers wrapped in cellophane, or a Whitman’s Sampler, or a gift card.
But c’mon, this is the woman who birthed you and raised you — surely you can exert a little more effort.
Here are two suggestions for tasty treats— both handmade locally — that she probably wouldn’t buy for herself. They’re on the pricey side, and you’ll have to go to some trouble to get them, but that’s the point.
>> Lilikoi Mac Nuts, made and exclusively sold at the Kahala Resort & Hotel, only available through June 30. Perfectly tangy and sweet, they are $30 per half-pound box at the resort gift shop, the Kahala Boutique. Call 739-8907.
>> Padovani Chocolates, by master chocolatier Philippe Padovani, in myriad flavors, from apple banana to ginger to tequila. The two newest are a milk-chocolate hazelnut and a dark made with Redbreast Irish whiskey. Customize your selection and choose a pretty box at his store in the Shops at Dole Cannery. Call 536-4567.
