CBS has picked up the reboot of the Hawaii-based 1980s TV hit “Magnum, P.I.”
Writer and executive producer Peter Lenkov, who has helmed the successful reboots of “Hawaii Five-O” and “MacGyver,” announced the series order Friday on his verified Twitter account.
The series will air sometime during the upcoming 2018-19 broadcast season, although it has not yet announced whether it will be part of the fall lineup or a midseason replacement.
Jay Hernandez (“Suicide Squad”) will take on the iconic character of Thomas Magnum, previously played by Tom Selleck. Other regulars include Perdita Weeks (as Juliet Higgins), Stephen Hill and Zachary Knighton.
Hernandez celebrated the news by posting a Twitter photo of himself behind the wheel of a red convertible.
The one-hour drama was one of five new series that made the cut for CBS. Also picked up were “God Friended Me,” “The Code,” “The Red Line” and “Fam.”
