The estate of Clifford and Blanche Hee has bequeathed $2 million to the University of Hawaii’s Shidler College of Business to expand a scholarship in honor of their two sons.
Michael and Thomas Hee both died early from complications of hemophilia.
Thomas Hee graduated from UH in 1978 with a degree in accounting and management information systems (MIS). He co-founded the school’s MIS club and was honored as an outstanding senior in his field of study. He later served as a vice president at First Hawaiian Bank and was active in Hawaii Jaycees, the Honolulu Marathon Association and the Hemophilia Foundation.
Estate trustee Tony Ching, brother of Blanche Hee, who died last year, said in a statement that Thomas and Michael Hee “faced enormous challenges in life, but did not complain about their situation and, instead, endeavored to be the very best that they could be.”
The endowed scholarship was first established in 2002 and to date has benefited 11 students. The Hees’ bequest will provide annual scholarship funding of $50,000 and underwrite modernization and naming of the college’s Undergraduate Computer Room in Thomas Hee’s honor.
