The Hawaii HomeOwnership Center has received a $75,000 grant to be disbursed over a three-year period from the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation.
The funds will help HHOC provide classes and individualized coaching to homebuyers throughout the state to attain sustainable homeownership. It also will support post-purchase services for homeowners.
Hawaii has the fifth-lowest rate of homeownership and ranks last in home affordability in the nation according to the CFED Assets and Opportunity Scorecard. Only 57 percent of all housing units in Hawaii are owner-occupied, compared to the U.S. average of 63 percent.
