A surfer off Hau Bush in Ewa Beach on Saturday morning wasn’t bitten by a shark, but injured by a surfboard skeg.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources said in a news release Tuesday that the 48-year-old man told paramedics Saturday he had possibly been bitten on the lower left leg by a shark, but in an interview Tuesday said he thought the injury came from the skeg.
EMS had reported the man said he did not see a shark, but said his injuries were consistent with a possible bite.
Suspect sought in Kailua home shooting
Police are searching for a male suspect in a shooting at a home in the Enchanted Lake neighborhood of Kailua.
At 10:12 p.m. Monday an argument between two men escalated into a physical confrontation on Keolu Drive, according to police. The suspect retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, shot the victim and fled. The victim, a 39-year-old man, was taken in serious condition to a hospital.
Police are investigating the case as a second-degree attempted murder and interviewing witnesses.
2 evacuated in separate incidents on Maui
The Coast Guard evacuated two people Tuesday in two separate cases near Molokini Crater on Maui.
At 9:38 a.m. a passenger vessel reported a 50-year-old woman had received severe jellyfish stings while snorkeling. Crews from Coast Guard Station Maui’s 45-foot Response Boat-Medium (RB-M) responded with a paramedic on board and took the woman and her family to Maalaea Harbor where emergency medical personnel were waiting.
At 10:35 a.m. a passenger vessel reported a 64-year-old woman suffering from severe disorientation. The RB-M transported the woman and her teenage child to Kihei Marina where emergency personnel were waiting.
Man charged in burglary at police station
A 27-year-old man was charged Saturday in connection with the burglary of two police bicycles valued at $1,200 each from a police substation in Hilo.
Keola Werner-Kealoha was charged with one count each of first-degree theft, second-degree theft, second-degree burglary and burglary of a building during an emergency period. He was being held at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $42,000 bail.
Police arrested Werner-Kealoha on Thursday. Officers served a search warrant on a backpack in his possession and recovered supplies and equipment taken from a police substation at the Mooheau Bus Terminal.

Firefighters put out treehouse fire
Firefighters responded Saturday afternoon to a treehouse on fire in Wainiha, Kauai.
The call about a structure fire came in at around 4:40 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a treehouse engulfed in flames and an off-duty firefighter and lifeguard attempting to contain it with a garden hose. Firefighters, with help from helicopter water-bucket drops, had the fire extinguished by 7:20 p.m.
Damage is estimated at $1,500. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
