Today the Honolulu Star-Advertiser launches the Extra Family section, a weekly resource for parents and kids with a focus on fun. Each Thursday, we will present a lively mix of events for the keiki, movie reviews from a parent’s perspective, crafts, jokes and more.
Stroll under more than 2,000 hanging lei and through a balloon tunnel, then dance in a shower of confetti from a keiki-sized confetti volcano.
The activities are among seven interactive exhibits in The Museum of Aloha’s The Experience at Pearlridge Center.

“It’s such a great time and everyone leaves with a smile,” said creator David Nagamine, who added that he wanted to make The Experience affordable and fun for the whole family.
With so many vibrant photo opportunities, Nagamine encourages visitors to take lots of pictures in each experience, including the streamer photo booth and in front of an ethereal painting of angel wings.

You can also enjoy free sweets during the exhibit. There will be samples of either Da Snack Shack’s nitrogen ball treats or The Cookie Corner cookies.
SPEND SUMMER UNDER THE STARS WATCHING MOVIES
Fresh air, a free film and family fun — what better way to spend a summer night. You just have to figure out which outdoor flick to pick because there are many to choose from this season.
Among the offerings: Watch “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” in a lush setting (a hike away from a waterfall!) at Waimea Valley’s Screen on the Green or “Black Panther” while floating on an inner-tube in a pool at Wet’n’Wild Hawaii’s Dive’n’Movies.
“This summer we have more Dive’n’Movies than ever before to take advantage of the long days and cooler evenings,” said Eddie Galdones, Wet‘n’Wild Hawaii marketing director.
So pack up the kids, the beach chairs, blankets — and swim gear, if you’re bound for the water park. Here’s a roundup of outdoor movies screening this summer:
