Power was restored to Iroquois Point late Thursday following an outage that lasted some 31 hours. Hawaiian Electric Co. was finally able to install a mobile substation to temporarily replace the one that was damaged by a rat that caused fuses to blow and the complete loss of power to the Kapilina Beach Homes neighborhood. Power was restored after 10 p.m. The oceanfront rental community is home to more than 3,000 people and features homes that were originally built in the early 1960s for military housing.
Friends of the Library gets $33,333 donation
Hawaii State Federal Credit Union donated $33,333 Friday to the Friends of the Library of Hawaii in celebration of the organization’s 71st annual book sale at McKinley High School. The gift will enable Friends of the Library to provide programming, support library staff, increase services and materials, and improve Hawaii’s public library facilities statewide. The book sale begins today at McKinley High School and will run through June 24. It will feature more than 150,000 books, merchandise and rare art on display. Cincinnati Bell donates $10K to Salvation Army
Cincinnati Bell, which is in the final stages of its acquisition of Hawaiian Telcom, has donated $10,000 to The Salvation Army — Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division. The money, which is meant to help offset the Big Island lava and Kauai and Oahu flooding events, came from employee, customer and corporate contributions.
