Lena Lutzeier was named the Pacific West Conference women’s tennis scholar-athlete of the year, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
The senior from Blaustein, Germany, had a 3.90 grade-point average this season. In addition to this award, she was named ITA National and PacWest player of the year.
Selected to the first-team All-PacWest in both singles and doubles after this past season, Lutzeier had a record of 22-1 at the No. 1 position. She teamed up with Oceane Adam in doubles play for a No. 11 ranking nationally and a 19-5 record.
She is eligible for the PacWest female scholar athlete of the year award, which will be announced Thursday.
Swords volleyball adds 4 to 2018 roster
Chaminade women’s volleyball coach Kahala Kabalis Hoke announced the signing of a freshman and three transfers for the 2018 season on Tuesday.
Defensive specialist Lekaleka Kiner-Falefa is a transfer from UNLV who led the Rebels in digs last season with 3.97/set, which was good for fifth in the Mountain West Conference. The 5-foot-9 Honolulu native and 2016 graduate of Mid-Pacific Institute spent her freshman year at the University of North Texas, where she was second on the team with 2.45 digs/set. Kiner-Falefa will redshirt in 2018 and have two years of eligibility starting in 2019. Her older brother, Isiah, is a utility infielder for the Texas Rangers.
Outside hitter Alana Handy is a transfer from Bethune-Cookman University and finished the 2017 season with 1.79 kills/set and 3.25 digs/set. She was the MEAC rookie of the year in 2016 and will have two years of eligibility remaining at Chaminade.
Middle blocker Holly Pittman is a junior college transfer from Northwest College (Wyo.), where she was named to the All-Region IX North and Regional IX North All-Tournament teams. She also earned second-team honors in conference and will have two years of eligibility at Chaminade.
Middle blocker/right-side hitter Lataisia Saulala graduated from Oakwood High School (Morgan Hill, Calif.) in 2018 and led her team to three straight league championships. She was also the league’s MVP for three straight seasons.
The foursome joins Sacred Hearts Academy outside hitter Tate Lutu, who signed with the Silverswords during the early signing period in November.
Chaminade finished 16-12 overall last season and in a tie for sixth place in the Pacific West Conference.
