The Honolulu Fire Department has determined a fire on the rooftop of a 40-story condominium building in Kakaako was intentionally set.
Honolulu police have initiated an arson investigation into the suspicious fire that occurred at Ae‘o at 1001 Queen St. shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Firefighters extinguished the fire at 11:17 p.m. Damage was confined to construction materials on the rooftop.
No injuries were reported.
Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. Scot Seguirant said a fire investigator determined the blaze was intentionally set.
Police said there are no arrests at this time.
Damage is estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $30,000 to its contents.
Ewa Beach woman arrested in murder case
An Ewa Beach woman wanted on murder charges in Virginia was arrested Wednesday on Oahu.
Authorities with the U.S. Marshals and Honolulu Police Department said Shanon Tracett Hodges, 22, was wanted by the Newport News Police Department in Virginia on an arrest warrant for second- degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm in an occupied building, and kidnapping in May 2017.
She was indicted in Virginia on June 11. She is accused of shooting her husband, 19-year-old Denzel Marquise Labiche, according to 13newsnow.com, an ABC affiliate in Virginia. The couple met in the Army, and Labiche was an Army private.
At the time of the incident, Hodges was in the Army and stationed in Virginia. She is being held pending a court appearance and extradition hearing.
Minneapolis fugitive arrested on Oahu
A 30-year-old Minneapolis fugitive who pleaded guilty to felony criminal vehicular homicide was arrested Wednesday in Honolulu.
According to U.S. Marshals and the Honolulu Police Department, Abel Morara Kebasso was taken into custody at a home on Hau Street, and transported to HPD pending a court appearance and extradition hearing to Minnesota.
Kebasso was wanted by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota on an arrest warrant in connection with an April 8, 2017, vehicle crash in which he was the driver and his passenger was killed. Authorities say at the time of the crash Kebasso was under the influence of alcohol.
He pleaded guilty in October, was convicted of felony criminal vehicular homicide and ordered to turn himself in to begin serving his sentence on Nov. 1. After he failed to show up, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Kebasso was transported and booked by HPD pending a court appearance and extradition hearing.
