Two men accused of stabbing and hitting people with a baseball bat at a graduation party in Papakolea Community Park this past weekend were not guests of the party, Deputy Prosecutor Ashley Tanaka told a state judge Thursday.
She said Slade Tuilata-
Nakila and Dylan Misiluti went to the party with a guest who had been kicked out for picking fights.
“That guest left, then came back with a bunch of his friends, including the two defendants,” Tanaka said.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Thursday charging Tuilata-Nakila, 22, with attempted murder and assault and Misiluti, 23, with assault. The guest who returned to the party after getting kicked out is not charged with any crimes.
Circuit Judge Colette Garibaldi confirmed bail for Tuilata-Nakila at $100,000 and Misiluti at $25,000.
Misiluti posted bail Monday. Tuilata-Nakila remains in custody at Oahu Community Correctional Center.
Tanaka told Garibaldi that after Misiluti and Tuilata-
Nakila, of Kalihi, arrived at the party, a huge fight broke out on the street. The Honolulu police officer who responded to the scene on an argument call estimated that there was a crowd of more than 100 people when he
arrived.
During the fight Tanaka said Tuilata-Nakila stabbed a man twice in the back and stabbed a minor twice in the left shoulder. She said one of the stab wounds to the man punctured the victim’s right lung.
She said Misiluti hit another person in the head with an aluminum bat, knocking the victim unconscious. The injury required three staples to stop the bleeding, Tanaka said.
Police said the victim
who was stabbed in the back suffered his injuries
after he was able to subdue a male with a bat on the ground.
The city’s Emergency Medical Services Division says three of its ambulance crews transported five patients to the hospital in serious condition Saturday: a 43-year-old man and 17-year-old male with possible stab wounds, and a 17-year-old female and two males, ages 17 and 18, with possible injuries from a bat.
Police arrested Tuilata- Nakila and Misiluti at the scene. They said witnesses identified Tuilata-Nakila as the stabber and Misiluti as the person who assaulted
at least one victim with a bat.
At the time of their
arrests, Tuilata-Nakila and Misiluti were each wanted on $100 bench warrants.
Tuilata-Nakila was wanted for failing to show up in
Honolulu District Court to answer to a simple trespass charge, and Misiluti for failing to show for a park rules violation.
