Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz advanced to the quarterfinals at the Corona Open J-Bay in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, on Wednesday.
Zietz moved on in his Round 3 matchup after Australia’s Owen Wright withdrew with a severe cold.
In Round 4, Zietz was pitted in a heat with Brazilians Adriano de Souza and 2017 Corona Open champion Filipe Toledo. Despite breaking a board, Zietz was able to score a 16.13, finishing second in his heat to advance.
Zietz will face off with South Africa’s Jordy Smith in his quarterfinal matchup. Conditions will be reassessed before the next call is made.
