The Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Small Business Administration are reminding homeowners and renters affected by the Kilauea eruption that disaster loans as low as 1.93 percent are available to help them recover.
The deadline to apply is Aug. 13.
Homeowners are eligible for SBA loans of up to $200,000 to repair or replace real estate and up to $40,000 for personal property. Renters also can apply for loans of up to $40,000 to replace personal property.
The disaster loans have terms up to 30 years and may be available even before insurance settlements. There are no points or application fees to homeowners and renters.
To apply for SBA low-interest disaster loans, business owners, private nonprofit groups, homeowners and renters can apply online at disasterloan.sba.gov/ela. For more information, visit fema.gov/ disaster/4366.
Coast Guard welcomes Barbers Point commander
Capt. Andrew Ericks took command of Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point from Capt. Frederick Reidlin on Friday.
Reidlin had served as commanding officer since 2015.
Ericks was program manager of the Coast Guard’s Financial Management Service Improvement Initiative in the Acquisition Directorate (CG-9) at Coast Guard Headquarters. He enlisted in 1984 and served as a machinery technician and qualified diver before attending Officer Candidate School and naval flight training in Pensacola, Fla. He has a Bachelor of Science in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Master of Science in industrial administration from Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management.
Air Station Barbers Point covers the Hawaiian Islands and the South Pacific. It has 240 personnel, four HC-130 Hercules airplanes and three MH-65 Dolphin helicopters.
