Pawaa In-Ha Park will be closed for maintenance for seven weeks, starting Friday, city parks officials said.
The 1.68-acre park between South King and Young streets, bounded by Kaheka Street, is normally closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and is a place where homeless congregate. City crews previously conducted cleanup operations around the sidewalks.
The city Department of Parks and Recreation said its maintenance crews will repair the irrigation system, remove graffiti, do some power washing, fertilize and aerate the park turf, repair tables and benches, and trim trees. The park is scheduled to reopen Aug. 31.
Power outages planned for Iroquois Point area
Hawaiian Electric Company is planning three separate power outages in the Iroquois Point area, with the first set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to the utility company. The outages will allow for crews to install a new transformer at the Iroquois Point substation in August.
The existing transformer was damaged by a rat, causing a lengthy unplanned outage in June.
Affected areas will be the Puuloa Rifle Range, the Navy Exchange mini-mart and about 1,400 units in the Kapilina Beach Homes, formerly known as Iroquois Point naval homes.
Two other outages are planned for four hours Thursday, Aug. 16, and eight to 10 hours on Thursday, Aug. 30.
