Hawaii golfers continue to excel.
Punahou alum Parker
McLachlin, 39, shot a
4-under 68 on Friday and is tied for 18th at 7-under 137 at the weather-beaten Barbasol Championship in
Nicholasville, Ky.
McLachlin got his round in before play was suspended. First-round leader Troy Merritt (67 for 15-under 129) and Billy Horschel (66 for 13-under 131) also completed their rounds and sit atop the leaderboard.
Moanalua alum John Oda, 22, completed 16 holes and is tied for 49th at 4 under for the tournament and 1 under for the day.
McLachlin started off with consecutive birdies. He carded another birdie for front-nine score of 33. He birdied the 17th for a 35 on the back. On Thursday, the UCLA alum shot a 69 despite recording bogeys on his last two holes.
McLachlin won $81,366 at last week’s John Deere Classic — more than the previous eight years on the PGA and Web.com tours combined. He also has two top-25 finishes in seven PGA Tour starts this season.
Oda, who played for UNLV, had two birdies and a bogey in his second round.
On the Symetra Tour, Punahou alum Stephanie Kono shot a second-round 73 for a 2-under 142 and is tied for 25th at the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic in Rochester, N.Y.
Four golfers are tied for the lead at 7-under 137. Kono, who shot a 69 in the first round, had two birdies and three bogeys in her second round.
