Indulging yourself with a treat doesn’t have to mean digging into some big, rich, super-sweet concoction, especially after a meal. Instead, try some Olivia rice cakes, Korean desserts that are lovely to look at as well as delicious. The real beauty of these treats is in their delicate sweetness.
There are pretty, decorated mochi dumplings filled with a mildly sweet bean mix and shaped into little moons. There are traditional round mochi morsels and round cakes of whole-grain rice.
My favorite: a spongy, layered rice-flour cake that is light and airy, and colorful to boot.
Find these sweet treats in limited supply at Ahi & Vegetable’s Ala Moana Center location, in The Lanai food hall space (at the old Shirokiya site).
Manager Tina Kim said the cakes are the perfect dessert accompaniment to the restaurant’s menu of poke bowls, sashimi, sushi, donburi and more.
“Other places have ice cream, things like that, that are too sweet,” she said. “These are small desserts, not too sweet, that are made fresh everyday.”
Find various combos of the cakes sold in duos for $2.75 at Ahi & Vegetable, spread out right next to the registers.

LADIES FIRST …
Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola tips his hat to prominent women of history with a new line of liquors, Great Women of Spirits.
Coppola, who has produced wine in California’s Napa Valley since the 1970s, has just debuted bottlings of gin, vodka and brandy, with more to come. A party on Monday marked the line’s introduction to Hawaii, its sixth market.
The spirits:
>> Agnesi 1799 brandy: Named for Maria Gaetana Agnesi, an18th-century Italian mathematician.
>> Countess Walewska vodka: Maria Walewska was a Polish noblewoman who became the Emperor Napoleon’s mistress and advisor.
>> Ada Lovelace gin: Lovelace, a 19th-century British mathematician, is recognized as the world’s first computer programmer.
Spokeswoman Casey Boshae said only 10 cases of each have been allocated to Hawaii. They will be available only in bars and restaurants.
