Kauai, we haven’t forgotten you, although to north shore residents, it may seem that way. So many months after the devastating April storm and flooding damaged Kuhio Highway, people are still scheduling their transits according to a timetable of one-way convoys between Wainiha and Hanalei.
A new schedule will take effect Monday. Weekly updates on the work and convoy schedules are posted online (hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/2018-kuhio-highway-emergency-repairs). This will continue until the planned reopening of the highway in October — though further delay would come as no surprise.
School is right around the corner
About 13,000 Hawaii public schools teachers — including more than 800 new hires — started the 2018-19 year this week, prepping lesson plans and classrooms for Monday. That’s when backpack-toting K-12 students will head to more than 290 campuses statewide.
Enjoy one last weekend of summertime chillax, kids.
