Hurricane Hector intensified to a category 4 storm Saturday night with maximum sustained winds near 130 mph.
As of 8 p.m., the storm was about 1,395 miles east-southeast of Hilo, heading west at 12 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. Hector was expected to fluctuate in strength over the next few days but remain a major hurricane as it continues to move into the central Pacific basin, the center said.
The National Weather Service said Hector will be crossing the region during the middle of the work week, but it’s too early to determine how local weather will be impacted.
