Australia’s Moreton Bay Game Fish Club continues to lead after the third day of the 59th Annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament in Kona.
Five Pacific blue marlin and six short nose spearfish were tagged and released. Two ahi were caught and weighed at Kailua Pier.
Moreton Bay’s Clinton Hicks, fishing aboard the Divergent, tagged and released a Pacific blue marlin estimated at 125 pounds. The catch helped Moreton Bay sit atop the leaderboard with 1,000 points, ahead of Kona Game Fishing Club-Osaka, Gidborne Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club, J.J. Game Fishing Club of South Australia and Surfside Marina, all with 600 points.
KRU finishes pool play undefeated
Hawaii’s KRU baseball team concluded pool play undefeated in Vincennes, Ind. after a 5-0 win over Kennewick, Wash., on Wednesday in the 10u Cal Ripken World Series.
After a scoreless first three innings, KRU broke out for four runs in the fourth inning, led by a two-run double from Kupono Tabangcura.
From there, starting pitcher Bunz Banis and Tabangcura teamed up to toss a one-hit shutout. Banis pitched 4 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts before yielding to Tabangcura, who struck out two in 11⁄3 innings.
KRU finished pool play at 5-0, earning the top seed in the American Division and a bye into the semifinals which will be played on Friday at 2 p.m. Hawaii time.

Clippers exhibition game tickets on sale
Tickets for next month’s Los Angeles Clippers’ exhibition game at the Stan Sheriff Center have gone on sale, the NBA team announced.
The Clippers, who are holding a training camp at the University of Hawaii for a second consecutive year as part of a marketing partnership with the Hawaii Tourism Authority, will play the Sydney Kings of Australia’s National Basketball League in a 3:30 p.m. game Sept. 30.
Individual tickets start at $25, with group tickets starting at $16 and may be purchased through the Clippers’ website, clippers.com, or by phone, (808) 944-BOWS (2697).
The Clippers said they plan to visit and make a technology-based donation to a local school and hold a youth clinic with dates and sites to be announced later.
The Kings have won three NBL Championships and appeared in five NBL Grand Finals. Their roster includes former NBA center Andrew Bogut.
