Yes, you’re overdosed on elections. Saturday was a big day. Now, it’s time to get ready for the next one.
Wait, what? We’re not done?
No, the general election awaits us on Nov. 6, and there are already deadlines. Oct. 9 is the deadline for voter registration to get on the rolls without hassling on Election Day — but with same-day registration now, there is that option, too.
Absentee ballots for mail-in voters should be requested by Oct. 30, and the early walk-in voting option starts Oct. 23.
And more help is always needed. To learn how: elections.hawaii.gov/voters/volunteer.
With the index, it feels even hotter
The “wind-chill factor” is something we always hear about in mainland weather reports but nothing we ever worry about (unless you’re atop Mauna Kea, perhaps).
But it turns out we have a “heat index,” which on Thursday registered at 100 degrees. It’s more than the mercury level in the thermometers: It’s that, plus the relative humidity.
However you look at it, it was a hot day — though nothing like the current mainland heat wave. Hawaii wins the better-weather sweepstakes, again.
