The University of Hawaii men’s and women’s basketball teams lost their final games to conclude their foreign tours of Australia in Sydney.
The Rainbow Warriors faced the Sydney Kings of the NBL on Friday night with a chance to break even on their four-game tour. They cut a nine-point halftime deficit to four going into the fourth quarter, but gave up a late run and lost to the professional team, 82-65, to finish their tour with a 1-3 record.
Shooting guard Eddie Stansberry scored a team-high 15 points, Australian forward Jack Purchase added 14, and captain Brocke Stepteau scored 11 points to lead UH.
The Rainbow Wahine went into their game against the ATC Academy with a 3-0 record, and had a chance to sweep their tour of New Zealand and Australia, but were locked down in a 55-41 defeat.
Guard Jadynn Alexander led the Wahine with 10 points, while Lahni Salanoa added nine.
Senter, Onigama win all-around titles
Hawaii’s Sydney Senter and Kelsen Onigama won individual titles at the Asian Trampoline Cup, which ended Monday in Machida, Japan.
Senter scored 94.4 points and teammate Maia Amano posted a 92.955 in the women’s competition.
Onigama won the men’s individual title with an 86.325.
Hawaii won the team title with 273.68 points. Japan’s Waseda University was second with 257.975 and Japan’s Team Machida placed third with 243.435.
Hong Kong, India, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and three teams from Japan also competed in the event.
