A home meeting with national powerhouse Stanford highlights the University of Hawaii women’s basketball 2018-19 schedule announced Wednesday.

For the first time under seventh-year coach Laura Beeman, the Rainbow Wahine open their regular season at home — Nov. 6 vs. Pepperdine. But the main draw of the Wahine’s 16-game home schedule is the Nov. 25 meeting with Stanford in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. The Pac-12’s Cardinal finished last season ranked No. 15 and advanced to the NCAA tournament third round.

The other nonconference home dates are Portland (Nov. 16), Seattle (Nov. 18), American (Nov. 23), Florida Gulf Coast (Nov. 24), Idaho (Dec. 5) and Hawaii Pacific (Dec. 9). Nonconference road games are San Diego State (Nov. 9), San Diego (Nov. 11), UNLV and either Florida or Utah in Las Vegas’ Duel in the Desert tournament (Dec. 19 and 21), and Nevada (Dec. 29).

The 16-game Big West schedule begins at Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 5.

Kamehameha hires 3 varsity coaches

Daryl Kitagawa is the new baseball coach at Kamehameha, the school announced as one of three new hires Wednesday.

Kitagawa takes over for Kahi Kaanoi, who was hired on interim basis in February. Prior to that, Tom Perkins was the Warriors’ baseball coach.

The school also hired Leo Sing Chow for softball and Uri Barron-Silva for boys soccer. Sing Chow, who previously played for the Warriors’ softball program, takes over for James Millwood. Barron-Silva takes over the soccer reins from Jorge Barbosa.

“We welcome Daryl, Leo and Uri to our athletics ohana, and recognize these leaders for bringing a passion for their sport, knowledge and expertise, character and dedication to our school and our student-athletes,” Kamehameha athletic director Glennie Adams said in a news release.

Kitagawa was a member of the Warriors’ state championship baseball squad as a senior in 1987, and he went on to play collegiately for Hawaii Pacific and Long Beach State, where he helped the team reach the 1991 College World Series. He was a Warriors assistant in 2017 and 2018.

As a senior at Kamehameha, Sing Chow led Kamehameha to the 2002 softball state championship, when she was named as the state and ILH player of the year. She also played at Hawaii Hilo. She previously was a head coach at Hilo High and an assistant at Hawaii Hilo and Waianae.

Barron-Silva is also the head coach for the Hawaii State Olympic Development team and the Oahu United Soccer Club. He was a four-year starter at Hilo High from 2003 to 2006 and has been a coach at Kamehameha-Hawaii and an assistant at Campbell and with the Kailua Bulls and the Rush Soccer Club.
