You published two points of view on an important topic for readers in the Views & Voices section (“Is climate change sparking record-breaking forest fires?” Star-Advertiser, Sept. 4).
One author had a Ph.D. in the topic being discussed — a science topic. The other author had a Ph.D. in an unrelated humanities field, and for the bulk of his career, he worked on issues different than the one in the paper.
This second, unqualified voice works with a political group and is not actively involved in research on this topic. This second voice included two quotes from politicians, both from the same political party, and neither quote had any scientific backing.
It is a false equivalence to put forth one valid, well-researched and non-political view on a science topic next to the point of view of a partisan hack.
There are plenty of differing voices on climate change from hardworking people in the field. Please do your readers a favor and share perspectives from well-informed writers instead of obviously biased politicos pushing their non-factual agendas.
