September is here, but summer doesn’t have to end for your youngest ones with new sun-soaked, beach-themed board books “Dogs at the Beach in Hawai‘i” and “Ten Little Surfers in Hawai‘i.”
The books — both five-by-six-inches and 18 pages — are perfect for little readers, from infants to preschoolers.
They are filled with whimsical illustrations and fun rhymes: “Black dogs, white dogs, brown ones, too. Each tail wags with glee. Many have sand on their noses from watching sand crabs flee.” “Dogs at the Beach in Hawai‘i” also celebrates dogs in this Year of the Dog.
“Ten Little Surfers in Hawai‘i” has a style similar to “Ten Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” — in the end, just one little surfer remains in the water, but soon she beckons her friends back in to continue surfing. The book showcases surf culture by introducing keiki to terms like “turtle rolls,” “duck dive” and “hanging ten.”
