Leighton Loo thinks supporters of President Donald Trump see no alternative (“Trump supporters see no alternative,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Sept. 8). They perceive a desperate fight for survival against the “extreme left” — thinking that despite his flaws, Trump will protect them.
It’s a short-sighted perspective that ignores Trump’s lack of character and the existence of dangerous extremists on both sides. Differences in ideology aside, how can an ignorant, impulsive, unprincipled, selfish bully — known for lying and changing positions on a daily basis — be trusted to protect anyone’s interests?
Trump operates like a mob boss and openly admires the tactics of strongmen like Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Do his supporters really prefer the Russian and North Korean models of government? Do they really think they would find “protection” in them?
If not, they need to stand up now before it’s too late. There is no going back.
