Maui’s condominium market posted strong results in August while activity for single-family homes was flat.
The median price for condos jumped 27.5 percent to $509,988 from $400,000 in the year-earlier period while condo sales surged 32.7 percent to 146 from 110.
It was a different picture for single-family homes as the median price of $700,000 matched the same level it was at a year ago while sales increased by just 2.8 percent to 109 from 106.
Maui’s housing sale statistics are often volatile in part because the trade association counts sales of previously owned homes and new homes. The mix between primary housing in less expensive parts of the island and pricey vacation homes at resorts also can contribute to swings in median prices.
