A hard-fought game at Nevada’s Mackay Stadium resulted in a 1-1 double-overtime draw between the Hawaii soccer team and the Wolf Pack on Thursday night.
Both teams had their chances to win it in overtime. For UH, Raisa Strom-Okimoto had a couple of breakaway shots go just wide. UH moved to 3-2-1 this season, while Nevada of the Mountain West went to 3-2-2.
Tempers began to flare once UH sophomore center back Cristina Drossos was brought down by Nevada’s Angel Meriwether in the first half, not long after a 16th-minute goal by Leialoha Medeiros on a corner kick from Strom-Okimoto.
Drossos, who was taken down from behind on a slide tackle that earned a yellow card, did not return to the game. Nevada received four yellow cards to one for UH.
Nevada equalized in the 67th on a cross from Hannah Souza to Kathryn Yarbrough for a well-placed header.
Goalkeeper Lex Mata saved six shots for UH, including a couple of stops in the second OT period.
UH continues its road trip at San Francisco at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
